Or could he've had such an intimate knowledge of the Nile's workings (as all Egyptians had no choice in having) he deliberately built in redundancy out of Canute like humility (though I've read accounts online insisting Canute's attempt to turn back the tide was PROOF he was an egomaniac too)?

Before you decide bear in mind Amasis' mockery of his own role by gold-plating and jewel encrusting an inverted bidet and watching in amusement as others proceeded to worship it.

Consider also we're told when Akhenaten had his name and images scarred out this was due to enraged priesthoods reasserting their power after his death.

But there's evidence this was a much more common practise than's widely known to a degree you could argue it was possibly symbolically done to most if not all pharoahs (though sometimes in a more or less enthusiastic spirit) in a similar way to that of the Roman Catholic Church smashing the seals etc of a pope after his death to clear the way for his successor and encourage the 'spirit' of the dead predecessor (if not his more ardent followers) not to allow his influence too linger too long.alanborkyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15333017272673090593noreply@blogger.com
